I agree 100% that it is the main benefit, but I think that a secondary benefit would be that more people will think about whether they want to stick around until the the total collapse of systems end.

My aunt was an M.D.. When she realized that she had in incurable situation, at age 74, she spent her last three days alive doing things she loved the best with the people she loved the most. She then checked into a motel and got in the tub with enough pills and alcohol about, and proceeded to write her farewell note. It faded towards the end as everything finally took effect after two nicely written pages.

She chose the bathtub to make it easy for the crew that came to remove her. Everybody was shocked at first, but now, in retrospect, it seems like a reasonably thing to do.
